Thank you to our wonderful stylist, Mandi, for the following info on how shampoo and conditioner works with pets!
* Shampoo opens the hair shaft and bonds to dirt, so that when you rinse it off, the dirt goes with it.
* Conditioner closes the hair shaft and adds a protective coating of oils, which will repel dirt, and keep the coat from snagging on itself and causing tangles.
If you have an especially dirty dog, let the shampoo sit for a few minutes before you rinse it. More time will allow the shampoo to bond to more dirt.
Heavy conditioners will cause the coat to dry more slowly, but it's worth it! It protects the coat from the heat of the dryer as well as the brushing process.
If you brush a coat without anything to protect it, the hair shafts become damaged, which will cause it to tangle up faster the next time.
